The Provincial Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities of Seville (COCEMFE Seville), together with the local government of the Sevillian municipality of El Rubio, is working for the accessibility of people with disabilities to new technologies and the wide range of training and resources, in order to improve the lives of these people and eliminate the existing digital divide in rural areas.
To this end, the President of the Federation, Juan José Lara, and the Mayor of El Rubio, Rafael De la Fe Haro, met yesterday in the Plenary Hall of the Town Hall, in order to establish actions to develop in the municipality the EU-RUDISNET programme, an initiative that COCEMFE Seville runs together with five other countries (Italy, Turkey, Slovenia, Lithuania and Germany) and which aims to create a European network that increases self-confidence, empowerment, as well as the practice of inclusion; as well as the practice of inclusion in rural areas, training in mentoring and leadership of people with disabilities in rural areas of Europe.
The NGO was also able to visit the local association of people with disabilities in El Rubio ‘We also count’; as well as a workshop dedicated to carrying out activities with the group in the municipality called ‘Valiente’. A tour of the town also took place, visiting the Pensioners‘ Home, the Casa de la Cultura, the Auditorium, the Medical Clinic, the Municipal Library, and the Magistrates’ Court, to analyse the accessibility of public buildings and the social reality of the municipality.
In addition, Lara met with the head of studies at the Maestro Don José Jurado Espada Secondary School (IES) in El Rubio, Evelina Asián Chávez, with whom she coordinated a theoretical and practical activity that the Federation will carry out at the school on awareness, accessibility and adapted sports, on 3 December on the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2020.
The local government of this Sevillian municipality showed great sensitivity and empathy with the group. He also thanked the work of COCEMFE Seville for supporting the municipalities and improving the lives of these people, since in El Rubio there are 144, 54 of them severely affected with more than 65% disability.
