COCEMFE SEVILLA CARRIES OUT THE 2ND FOCUS GROUP OF THE EUROPEAN PROJECT ‘MOMS’.

The Provincial Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities of Seville, has carried out last Wednesday 3rd April, the second discussion group in the framework of the European project ‘Moms’.

The aim of this activity was dedicated to motherhood and sexuality of women with disabilities, where 11 women with disabilities, 3 technicians and 5 observers participated, for a total of 19 attendees.

The role of the State as guarantor of women’s rights and facilitator of these rights through its services and resources. Likewise, the importance of the State when it comes to carrying out awareness campaigns on these issues, educating on sexual matters and ensuring that the skills and sensitivities of its professionals are up to date.

Another important theme developed by the Focus Group participants was the defence of inalienable rights such as maternity for all women, and the right to an independent life.

For their part, the most relevant conclusions derived from this activity were, among others, greater involvement of the State to carry out awareness-raising measures on disability, diversity, inclusion, gender, motherhood, as well as other types of political actions, among them, keeping up to date with legislation on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Other conclusions were to give greater visibility to the group in order to bring about normalisation in society, especially those women with disabilities who are mothers, and to work closely with the families of mothers with disabilities so that they internalise respect for basic issues such as the principle of self-determination and stop interposing themselves as a barrier to the development of mothers with disabilities, whether motivated by an overprotective attitude or by a more traditional view.

From COCEMFE Seville, it is important to highlight that this European MOMS project is linked to other European projects also developed by the Provincial Federation, for the quality of life, autonomy and full life of women with disabilities in Seville and its province, such as: Orient2work, Rudisnet, Digiboost, Rural in Life among others.
