Redefining Motherhood: A Mother’s Day for Every Body

Mother’s day has always been a very important day celebrated each year in May.
The most fundamental meaning of Mother’s Day is the recognition of the unique and
invaluable role that mothers play in the lives of their children and later their
grandchildren. All the way from birth to nurturing and guiding their children through
life, mothers are an integral part of the family unit; they are the pillars and cornerstone of a family and the link between family members.

In the context of the Mother Matters project, a project which aims to spread awareness of motherhood for women with disabilities among disabled people and professionals working with them, is an impactful initiative which emphasises the right to motherhood regardless of abilities and physical barriers.

It is true that motherhood looks different for everyone and each journey deserves
respect, support, and the appropriate representation and acknowledgement.

  • Do you know your rights as a mother?
  • Are you aware of the support practices and support systems for disabled
mothers or aspiring to be disabled mothers?
  • Do you know how to seek help and advice through social media and online
    forums?
  • Can you recognize and challenge false information regarding maternity?
  • Have you sought professional help before to tackle any motherhood-related considerations and issues? What stops you?

On this Mother’s day take the opportunity to find answers to the above through the
MoM’s website at https://www.momsproject.eu/en/home and join the Mother Matter’s
Facebook forum (https://www.facebook.com/groups/442095998757366/) to either
contribute with parenting hints and tips, ask for help and advice and support other
mothers from all over the world! Stay tuned for the informative pills which will be soon published on the project’s website to gain more insights and valuable information regarding parenthood, psychological support, rights and medical information.
