Bridging borders through adapted sport: COCEMFE Seville is organising a week of youth inclusion between Spain and Turkey

The Seville Provincial Federation of Associations for People with Physical and Organic Disabilities, COCEMFE Seville, is launching a historic week of socialising, learning and international cultural exchange as part of its official Youth Mobility programme, thanks to a twinning arrangement with the Provincial Directorate for Youth and Sport in Sinop, Turkey.

From Monday 18 May until Saturday 23 May 2026, the organisation will become the hub of a transnational partnership aimed at empowering young people with disabilities through an intensive and varied programme of shared activities. The project formally kicks off in the iconic Plaza de España with the official launch and a welcome event for 15 people from Turkey and 25 young people with disabilities from Seville and the surrounding province.

Throughout the week, participants will be immersed in a comprehensive programme combining adapted sport with the province’s rich cultural heritage. The programme includes training sessions and table tennis competitions at Club Híspalis, coinciding with the celebration of Turkey’s Youth and Sport Day, as well as guided tours of historic sites such as the Archivo de Indias and the Jewish Quarter.

The group will also travel to Dos Hermanas to take part in wheelchair rugby and basketball sessions organised by the Dragones Quad Rugby and BSR Vistazul clubs – both member organisations of our federation – and will enjoy an institutional tour of Real Betis’ facilities at the Estadio Olímpico de la Cartuja, and the experience will culminate in the Alamillo Park with a vibrant batucada and an intercultural picnic to sample traditional dishes from both nations.

This initiative directly aligns with COCEMFE Seville’s mission, which focuses on defending the rights, promoting the autonomy and ensuring the full social participation of people with physical and organic disabilities.

This meeting marks the consolidation of a strong partnership between countries that are joining forces to eradicate social exclusion and strengthen ties between young people with disabilities in Spain and Turkey.

Through this bond of international cooperation, bridges of empathy and solidarity are being built that transcend borders, positioning Seville’s civil society organisations as a benchmark in the construction of a fairer and more accessible Europe.

The programme’s overarching aim is to foster a fighting spirit amongst disadvantaged young people and to eliminate society’s prejudices against marginalised groups.

It is important to note that this project is co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ programme. Through this youth exchange, the aim is to help people with disabilities feel once again that they are not separated from society, thereby demonstrating that everyone can adapt to any sporting discipline and practise any sport despite the difficulties they face.

In this way, practising together and mutual support demonstrate in a practical way that limits only exist in environments that are not adapted, reaffirming everyone’s right to enjoy and excel in their chosen sport.

For COCEMFE Seville, it is a great honour to welcome and work alongside this delegation from Turkey, for the wellbeing, inclusion and participation of people with disabilities in Seville and its province.
