FAMS-COCEMFE Sevilla organises a discussion group at its headquarters on employment opportunities for women with disabilities

The Provincial Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities of Seville (FAMS-COCEMFE Seville) organised, on March 25 at its headquarters, a discussion group for research on the relationships among women with physical and sensory disabilities and the employment opportunities, mainly aimed to new yields of employment and emerging sectors.

The activity is one of those organised within Ready Women project, co-financed by the Erasmus + program of the European Union, and It has allowed the Federation to host a group of eighteen women to discuss on these points. From this group, thirteen women had physical and sensory disabilities and the majority were actively seeking employment. Also three participants were job counsellors and one representative from the Special Employment Centre.

The meeting had a very relaxed and participatory atmosphere from the attendees side, who reached several conclusions. One of the most important was that quality training is necessary to generate new employment opportunities for women with disabilities, especially aimed at skills linked to new technologies  and others such as management skills, stress control or work-team.

Importance of making their needs visible and what they are capable of contributing to society, in order to sensitize employers and access jobs was discussed as one the most important aspects.

Linked to the above, the invited women expressed the loneliness and lack of information they experience before initiation into the world of work. However, they mentioned the undoubted work carried out by those associations of people with disabilities as they are reference centers where they can go if they want to find a job.

In this sense, FAMS-COCEMFE Seville has a Career Guidance and Insertion Accompaniment service, which offers information on the job market, advice on job search techniques, personal aspects of employment and support in job search.
