The Multipurpose Hall ‘Mantón de Manila’ in Carrión de los Céspedes hosted yesterday a face-to-face discussion group to detect the needs of people with disabilities in the rural areas of the Seville municipalities of Carrión de los Céspedes, Castilleja del Campo and Huévar del Aljarafe, as well as the local services in these municipalities.

This activity is part of the EU-RUDISNET programme (network for the social inclusion of people with disabilities in rural areas of the European Union through mentoring and leadership training), co-financed by Erasmus+, and developed by the Provincial Federation of Associations of People with Physical and Organic Disabilities of Seville (COCEMFE Seville).

Thanks to this initiative, people with disabilities, political representatives and technical staff from the local administrations of the aforementioned municipalities were able to learn more about aspects related to social services, education, employment, leisure and social participation.

Specifically, the importance of coordinated work between the Public Administration and the federations of people with disabilities was addressed, in order to improve the resources of the group so that they can achieve a full life in rural areas. Among them, the improvement of job offers and support for labour insertion; the empowerment of these people; the implementation of sports and educational activities; the figure of the personal assistant as a means to achieve independent living in rural areas; the commitment to inclusive and accessible leisure; the creation of a Day Centre; among others. The need to know who are the people with disabilities living in the towns was also underlined, so that they can express themselves and inform the Administration of their real needs.

In the group, moderated by the European projects technician of the Federation, Encarnación Barrera, participated the president of COCEMFE Seville, Juan José Lara; the collaborator of the entity, Pepe Fernández; the mayor president of the City Council of Carrión de los Céspedes, José Francisco Coronado; the councillor for Health, Social Welfare and Equality, Mercedes Suárez; the social worker Isabel Salinas; the social educator Enrique Guisado; the representative of the elderly in the municipality, Agrimino Gil; the neighbours Manuel Naranjo, David Pérez, Mariano Pérez, Victoria Hernández; the deputy mayor for Social Services, Health and Equality of the Huévar del Aljarafe Town Council, José Manuel Salas; the councillor for Youth, Culture, Sport and New Technologies, Miguel Amboage; the social educator Alegría Fernández; the spokesperson and councillor for the PSOE, Ignacio Rosado; the monitor of the Occupational Centre of the Association ‘Tu ayuda y mi trabajo’, Macarena Gómez; the third deputy mayor and councillor for Health, Youth and Communication of the Castilleja del Campo Town Council, José Francisco Reinoso; the mayor president and delegate for Economy, Urban Planning and Finance, Narciso Luque; and the social worker Beatriz Sánchez.
